It’s summer in California and, for many, there’s no better feeling than flying down the coast on a motorcycle with the wind in your face. Let’s face it—the scenic beauty and amazing terrain in California are like no other place on earth. Unfortunately, when you’re on a bike, you’re just not as visible as you are in other motor vehicles, and it’s a lot easier to lose control in an emergency. Though statistics show that most motorcycle accidents are caused by the negligence or carelessness of car and truck drivers, the California Highway patrol has indicated that it will be increasing its efforts to ensure that bikers don’t violate speed limits or other traffic laws.
According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, local offices of the California Highway Patrol will begin increased enforcement of aggressive driving or speeding laws among motorcyclists, beginning on August 1 and continuing until the end of September. Funding for the program comes from a grant through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The program will be implemented statewide.
